Westport: Port and Environs Strategy

Westport Taskforce Reference Group Members
In September 2017, WA’s Minister for Transport, Rita Saffioti, announced the establishment of the Westport Taskforce. It has a 2-year term to prepare ‘The Westport: Port and Environs Strategy‘.
This will provide guidance to the Government on the planning, development and growth of the Port of Fremantle at the Inner and Outer Harbours, the required rail and road networks, and the potential for the Port of Bunbury to contribute to the handling of the growing trade task.
Nicole Lockwood was appointed as the independent chair to lead the Taskforce, supported by a multi-agency, multi-disciplinary project office.
The Westport Taskforce Steering Committee, which includes Directors General from six government departments, the Chair of the Western Australian Planning Commission and the Chairman of the Fremantle Ports Board, will oversee the project.
WHA’s involvement in the Taskforce
Recognised by the Government as an important stakeholder/representative organisation, WHA is participating in the Taskforce Reference Group, providing an opportunity to input to the planning for the Kwinana Port.
Western Harbours Alliance hosted public forums in 2017 and 2018, introducing the Westport Taskforce Chair, Nicole Lockwood to the community to outline the work to be undertaken in developing the Strategy.
